About the Venue

Tucked away on 50 acres in Chardon — it feels like you left Ohio entirely.

Basil Place is a private estate venue built around sustainability, open land, and genuine hospitality. The property sits in Munson Township outside Chardon and feels removed from the world in a way that most Northeast Ohio venues don't manage. There's a 2.5-acre pond, rolling grounds that photograph beautifully in every season, and a collection of rescued animals — alpacas, pot-bellied pigs, white peacocks, chickens — that give the property a warmth and personality unlike anything in the region.

The venue holds up to 250 guests across its Event Center, Manor House, and outdoor ceremony spaces. For brides who want the full weekend, the Estate Overnight Package opens the entire property for an immersive celebration that extends beyond a single day.

Basil Place is a 2025 WeddingWire Wedding of the Year award recipient and an official Cleveland WeddingWire partner. Couples who book here consistently describe it as unlike anything else they considered.

The MAVON Approach at Basil Place

What we know.
What we plan for.

We've worked at Basil Place. Here's exactly how we approach this venue — the logistics, the light, the timeline, and what tends to go wrong when a team isn't prepared.

  • 01
The Carriage House is purpose-built for this
Unlike venues where you're working in a cramped hotel room, the Carriage House is genuinely designed for bridal preparation. Multiple large windows, room for two stylists simultaneously, and separation from the main house so you can decompress before the ceremony.
  • 02
    Budget 50 minutes from Copley
Basil Place sits on Bass Lake Road in Munson Township — about 50 minutes from our studio in Copley. We build this into every Basil Place booking and arrive 15 minutes ahead of schedule.
  • 03
The outdoor light here is exceptional
The 50-acre property means there's no obstruction — open sky in every direction. Morning light on the east-facing Carriage House windows is soft and even. We adjust our finishing products based on whether your ceremony is midday or evening.
  • 04
    Plan for the animals (seriously)
The alpacas and peacocks are a genuine delight and often end up in photos. They also occasionally make noise near the Carriage House during prep. We tell every client this in advance so it doesn't startle anyone mid-curl.
  • 05
Overnight weddings require a revised timeline
When couples book the Estate Overnight Package, the wedding extends well into the evening. If you want touch-up availability after the ceremony, we offer touch-up hour add-ons. Book this at inquiry — it fills quickly for peak season dates.

Frequently Asked

Questions brides ask
about Basil Place.

Do you travel to Basil Place from Copley?
Yes. Basil Place is approximately 50 minutes from our studio in Copley. A travel fee applies for all on-location bookings and is calculated at inquiry based on your party size.
How early can you arrive on the wedding morning?
We can begin as early as 6:00am. Start times before 7:00am carry an early-start fee. We build in a 15-minute buffer above our contracted start time.
How many people can you style at Basil Place?
Our standard team handles 6–8 people within a typical morning window. For larger parties (9+), we bring a second stylist. The Carriage House comfortably accommodates two stylists simultaneously.
Is a trial required?
Yes. We require a trial session for all full bridal bookings regardless of venue. Trials typically take place at our Copley studio 4–8 weeks before your wedding.
Do you do makeup as well as hair at Basil Place?
Yes. We offer full bridal hair and makeup packages on location. Both can be booked together or separately. Most Basil Place brides book the full package given the all-day nature of an estate wedding.
How far in advance should I inquire?
Basil Place books quickly, particularly for May–October dates. We recommend inquiring as soon as you've secured your venue date — ideally 12–18 months out for peak season.
