This is one of the most common questions we get from brides who are just starting their vendor search. The answer isn't universal — it depends on several factors that are specific to your wedding.
Here's how to think through it.
The case for on-location
On-location styling means the stylist comes to you — your hotel suite, your venue's bridal suite, your home. The primary advantage is logistics: your bridal party gets ready in the same place, at the same time, without anyone needing to travel.
For larger parties (4+ people), on-location almost always makes sense. Coordinating 8 people to all arrive at a salon at different times, get styled, and then travel to the venue introduces too many variables. Having the stylist come to you removes those variables.
On-location also allows for a more relaxed, intimate morning. You're in your own space, with your people, at your own pace.
The case for salon
Salon styling makes sense for intimate weddings with very small parties (1–2 people), when the salon is very close to the venue, or when the bride prefers the environment and tools of a fully equipped studio.
Stylists have access to everything they need in their own space. No hauling equipment, no adapting to poor lighting, no working around limited counter space.
What determines the right choice
- →Party size: 4+ people almost always warrants on-location
- →Venue: if your venue has a dedicated bridal suite, use it
- →Distance: traveling from salon to venue adds time and stress
- →Experience: do you want a quiet, familiar studio or a collective morning with your people?
- →Budget: on-location typically includes a travel fee
